Romaine Lettuce Ohitashi
Japanese style oil free salad

[4 Servings]    Cooking time: 10 minutes
 

1 bunch of Romaine lettuce, cut into 2-inch lengths

< Ohitashi Sauce >
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules, or one cube, crushed
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tablespoons water

Photo of Ohitashi sauce made by a microwave oven. 1. Place the <Ohitashi Sauce> ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl and cover with a vented microwave lid. Cook on HIGH (1200W) for 30 seconds. Take out and stir until the chicken bouillon dissolves.

Photo of Romaine lettuce made ready for microwave cooking. 2. In a microwave-safe bowl (4 liter or 4 quart), place the tips of Romaine lettuce leaves in first and have the stem ends on top. (This will cook the lettuce evenly.)

Photo of cooked Romaine lettuce. 3. Place a plate that can fit in the bowl, directly on top of the lettuce, and cook on HIGH (1200W) for 4 minutes.

4. Take out and divide the lettuce on serving plates and sprinkle the <Ohitashi Sauce> over the top.
